World production of oils and fats stood at 204.88 million tonnes (Figure 2). Palm oil and palm kernel oil jointly accounted for 69.87 million tonnes (34%) of this. Soybean oil output stood at 48.69 million tonnes (24%) and rapeseed oil at 26.13 million tonnes (13%).
Of the 82.96 million tonnes of oils and fats traded worldwide during the year, palm oil and palm kernel oil jointly accounted for 62% (Figure 3).
Malaysia remained a major player in the oils and fats export market. Its palm oil exports of 17.45 million tonnes represented 37% of the global palm oil trade (Figure 4).
